Nissan AMIEO DEI Annual Report FY2023

DEI in action around AMIEO

Inspiring girls in India and Spain

We welcomed female students aged between 13 and 15 years to step inside the world of automotive manufacturing at our plants in Chennai, India and Avila, Spain. Hosted by an all-women team of employees, the experience sought to inspire the students around STEM-based careers. We have more tours planned for other schools next year.

Unlocking manufacturing careers for Deaf operators

The Nissan manufacturing plant in Sunderland, UK has made great strides in integrating Deaf operators into its workforce, specifically within the bumper paint team. Thanks to the proactive efforts of the team leader and the willingness of colleagues to support and adapt, the number of Deaf employees in the team grew to four during FY2023 with their roles also being expanded to include increased responsibilities.

Some of the changes the plant has made include:
  • All training and instructional videos were equipped with subtitles, making them accessible to Deaf employees
  • Converting videos to PowerPoint presentations allowing for a read-through option
  • Inviting Interpreters for longer and more complex sessions, facilitating clear and effective communication.
  • Installing visual red alarm bells so Deaf operators could react promptly to emergency signals
  • Changes in the plant layout to enhance safety and accessibility for Deaf operators
  • Proper traffic management plans to ensure a safe and efficient work environment for all
  • Investigating virtual and augmented reality training options to make information more accessible in real-time
